District resources

As a District we have a van and a range of kit available to Groups and Units to use to support their activities and camps.

To view and book district kit, this can be found under the venue section in Online Scout Manager.

The van is a Ford Transit with a roof rack/bars and was bought in 2012, if you wish to book this please contact us.

We want to send an extra special well done to every member who achieves a top award. Let us know the details as soon as possible so we can also recognise the young person.

A bequest has been made from the trust fund of the late Melvin Skidmore to Cardiff East Scouts. As a result the East Executive has set up the Melvin Skidmore Memorial Fund to support members in the District.

These funds are to be used for the benefit of the members of the Scout Association in the East District to align with the Four Pillars of the 2018 Vision to deliver tangible benefits focussed across all members. In particular funds will be provided to cases based on merit which demonstrate wide benefit in supporting the values of Scouting.

The fund is managed by a sub committee comprising of four members – two uniform members, an Executive representative and a Young Leader from the District. This sub-committee is accountable to the District Executive, who will manage the funding over a five year period, including review of the supported activities and categories.

It should be noted that the funding is not to be used to replace existing funding held by District or Groups, which could otherwise be used to fund activities or resources. Additionally funding will be provided in partial support for activities or resource requirements rather than full funding.

As a District we have a qualified shooting instructor for air rifles, Tony Byrne (1st St. Mellons CSL), who offers to run sessions for groups. He charges £2.50 per person and there is no time limit on sessions but stays until the young people are finished and happy. Tony provides instruction from and including the Cub section upwards.

All equipment is provided including modern air rifles which are simpler for Cubs and smaller Scouts to use safely due to the mechanisms used. Bookings are preferably to be made 14 days in advanced and cannot be booked on Friday evenings.

To book a session please contact Tony by email below.

    Laser Rifles

The area have recently purchased a set of laser rifles for use by all sections including Beavers. They are risk free and hence do not fall under any firearm laws and can be set up within 5 minutes. Bookings can be made here and must be made 14 days in advanced of requirement.
