FAO all Scout leaders.
We’re planning a Scouts taster caving day for Saturday 27th November and we need a small number of volunteers to help the day work. Don’t worry, you won’t need to go underground (although we could make space for one or two adults too if there are any who’d like to give it a try).
We need some people who are willing and able to drive a minibus for some or all of the day.
The rough plan is that we will have 2 buses carrying a total of 18 Scouts leaving an agreed pickup in the CAV area and dropping them at the cave site in the Brecon Beacons. The buses will then return empty to collect another 18 Scouts who will be the afternoon group – collecting the morning group from the cave and returning them to Cardiff before returning to the cave to collect the afternoon group.
Doing it this way eases pressure on the car park, something that all activity providers operating in the Brecon Beacons have been asked to help with. It also frees the Cave Leaders up to simply run the caving meaning that we can get more young people underground in one day. If we either have two volunteers willing to make the 3 trips or a few volunteers willing to share the driving, we’ll be able to get 36 Scouts on this taster day with a view to running a more adventurous weekend of caving in the new year.
Please don’t circulate this to your Scouts just yet – we need to make sure we have the personnel to run the weekend before we commit.
If you could reply to me – Piers.hallihan@cardiffandvalescouts.org.uk ASAP then I’ll look to get bookings out to Scouts via Eventbrite in a week or two.
Thanks
Piers
